Q - Is blogging a good way to make money online?
OK, that's a great question and you've probably been told that you can make money with blogging.
There are tens of thousands of blogs out there in any given topic and yet most people are told to start a blog.
And most people are told that they should pick their passion and start blogging about it.... which is not a bad idea if you want to create a body of work and you have a lot of time in your hands to invest into something that makes no money or very little money.
But if you want to make the kind of money that will sustain a lifestyle and you are planning to do it with a blog, then you need to understand a few things... before you jump in.
Reality is: "Blogs don't make money, businesses do".
A blog is not a business. All those bloggers who have failed to make money, who have been trying desperately to make more than a few bucks from all their quality blog posts… they all fail because they’ve missed one VITAL point.
… that blogging is not a business model.
Here's what most people do:
Get an idea that's fun
Start a blog
Write a bunch of posts
Throw Google Ads all over the damn place
Write some more blog posts..
Check google adsense and see no earnings.
Screw this! It's too much work for no pay.
Blame the gurus for lying to you.
There is a lot of misinformation out there and if you decide to do blogging just for the money and you didn't do your research into the market that you you are passionate about -- then you'll be disappointed.
But understanding what a Blog is and using it for that purpose will benefit your business -- no doubt.
A blog is a content distribution channel... and you can decide how you want to use it.
There are two ways your business can benefit from a blog:
As a content distribution platform.
For generating organic traffic
To move your readers further along the pipeline as a lead.
They are all valid reasons to have a blog for your business. As an extension of your brand with valid information that helps your ideal customers.
But if you want to go into blogging with the sole purpose of making money by just blogging, then you have to do your research before you spend time creating a blog.
And in this case, your passions alone may not do the trick...
Two things...you should put more focus on to make money with a blog.
Audience Spending Potential. Make sure that your market has the potential and a need to invest in what you are offering as a product. If you are blogging about watercolors and your hobbies, you want to how much your audience is willing to spend.
More focus on a System. Less content creation and more focus on a system that you can put in place. For example, a system to research and write contents on a consistent basis... and a system to convert readers into leads and customers.
So the answer to the question.... Is blogging a good way to make money is...
Yes, if you focus on a system... a system to research, and put out content and a system to convert your readers into clients.
For someone who is starting out, the best way to use the blog is for branding themselves and to gain more trust from your audience.
